Carlo Rampazzi was born in Ascona in 1949: although holder of a Swiss passport, he has always felt citizen of the world. Very early on (in the seventies), his interests started focusing on furniture and design and he obtain his qualifications in architecture and interior decoration in Lugano and Paris. A cosmopolitan by vocation, he refined his aesthetic taste by traveling and exploring different worlds and cultures: it is surely not by chance that his projects (private dwellings, boutiques, grand hotels, spas, yachts, commercial spaces) are disseminated around the globe: Europe, America, Asia, the Middle and Far East. Ever since the eighties revisiting classical style in a contemporary and maximalist key and producing a series of “new classic” furniture that have been displayed at important fairs and exhibitions of the sector. Today, Carlo Rampazzi designs and produces his own collection of furniture and objects for interior decoration together with decorator Sergio Villa. All of his objects denote a high level of craftsmanship and come in limited editions; they are a calibrated blend of sophisticated decorative techniques, vintage materials and often an alternative mix of fabrics such as fur, majolicas, glass and leather that may be open to all sorts of personalization. Carlo Rampazzi wishes to dress houses and apartments as he dresses himself, that is, with a style that is in no way related to an age or a fashion. This is why his furniture and decorations are not linked to their destination of use: they are free, emotional and flighty, indispensable in their sometimes absolute and infinite lack of functionality.
